This healthy cup Oat Milk Hot Chocolate hits the spot every time. It’s sweetened with maple syrup, had chopped dark chocolate, powdered collagen and dairy-free oat milk. I like to think of it as a lighter version of my favorite, indulgent Homemade Hot Chocolate.
This is probably the most “LA” recipe I have on this entire site but the truth of the matter is I love hot chocolate, but I don’t always love how heavy it feels. I want to drink hot chocolate all the time. And this iteration fits the bill for me.
Ingredients for Oat Milk Hot Chocolate
- Dark Chocolate – I like using dark chocolate in this cup, but feel free to use semi-sweet if you like. And we’re chopping up a bar.
- Maple Syrup – This is my favorite sweetener. I think it really complements the chocolate notes.
- Oat milk – You could absolutely use any milk you like, whether that’s soy, almond milk or dairy.
- Powdered Collagen – This is optional but I love the added protein and creaminess it adds.
How to Make Oat Milk Hot Chocolate
- In a small saucepan, warm up the milk and add in the chopped chocolate, maple syrup and pinch of salt. Mix it up until the chocolate has melted.
- Transfer it to a blender and add in the powdered collagen, if using. Gently blend it up until frothy.
- Pour it up. If you’re feeling festive, top it with one of my Coffee Marshmallows.
Tips and Tricks
- Variations – Feel free to use a different type of milk. Add cocoa powder if you want it a bit creamier. Use cacao powder if you want some added antioxidants.
- Toppings – I say go crazy. Add whipped coconut cream or regular whipped cream. Top it with Mint Chocolate Chip Marshmallows, if you feel so inclined!

In a medium saucepan, pour in the chocolate, oat milk, maple syrup and pinch of salt. Turn the heat to medium-low and warm slowly, whisking steadily, until the chocolate has melted and has married with the oat milk.
Carefully transfer to the blender and pour in the scoops of collage, if using.
Place the lid on and allow some steam to escape (if you don’t, it can sometimes lead to a bit of an explosion) and pulse for about 30 seconds, until nice and frothy.
